Usually I am a fiend for Christmas. The whole bit.. lights, trees, presents, baking,
cards... Everything! I thought I would be a sucker for European Christmas, but
today was the first time ALL MONTH that it has even felt slightly Christmasy to
me. It wasn't the advent calendars, nor the giant christmas trees, nor the mulled
while, carols service or even the snow, but a random moment, walking through
the metro listening to Mariah Careys Christmas carols (really, are there any
others that even make the cut compared to hers?!) and it hit me: If I have spent
Christmas the same way, every year of my life, eating prawns, going to the
beach, with all my family, etc, then of course it isn't going to feel quite right over
here in the snow.
All of those European things might be Christmas traditions, but they aren't my
Christmas traditions. That doesn't mean it isn't Christmas though,it is just a time
for new memories, new traditions, new foods, new friends, and a new
appreciation for new ways of doing things. Like fondue... but more on that
another day...
(However I am a little bit excited to come home and go to the beach still)

ARE U COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS?
ReplyDeleteits maz xx
I wonder what you will "bring back" from Paris as a new Christmas tradition, memory or such, to bring into your family Christmas in Australia in the future? Has anything struck you yet?
ReplyDeletei wont lie to yee sis. not looking forward to christmas this year. ive realised that dealing with mums panic, pops complaining, dads grumbling and nans demands for a taxi to eagle head road is usually easier when you are here. ive kinda been looking forward to ham sandwiches in my undies which was mine and dads original plan. to no avail though.
ReplyDeletereturn to me soon.
miss you.
