Glass half full

Paris is what you make it. You can be overwhelmed by the
beauty, romance, culture and passion of the place, let it take you in and lose you
within its architecture, monuments and art. Or, you can be confronted by the dull
grey homogeneous buildings, the even grey-er sky, the rude people, the smells,
the homelessness all whilst dodging dogshiz on the too narrow footpaths. Hey,
you wouldn't be Parisian if you didn't endlessly complain about Paris then refuse
to ever leave.

One thing is obvious- Paris isn't a fast paced, modern, upbeat city like Sydney
(displaying obvious bias) or New York (assuming) or London. Everything that I
like about Paris is in its antiquity or traditions; things that have been around for
centuries or more. In many cultural fields Paris is stagnant, caught up in its
history and past which sort of seems to bog it down a bit. I dont mind though.. it
seems to be part of it's charm.

For me, I am quickly realizing that I live in one of the most beautiful areas, in
one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
